INTRODUCTIE

 

In de tentoonstelling ‘Kind, mijn Kind’ wordt de vraag gesteld naar de rol van de mens als dader en slachtoffer. In wisselende contexten is men tot beiden in staat.

 

De kunstenaars stellen in hun werk meerdere paradoxen, schijnbare tegenstellingen, aan de orde. De paradoxen van macht en onmacht, slachtoffers en daders. Mensen ervaren in wisselende situaties hoezeer men machtig en onmachtig is, slachtoffer kan zijn en mogelijk ook dader. In de tentoonstelling zijn de genoemde paradoxen tot uitdrukking gebracht in  foto’s van Theo Derksen en schilderijen van Jos Wigman. Middels dia’s van deze foto’s en schilderijen zien we hoe de beelden van slachtoffer en dader in elkaar vloeien, terwijl we luisteren naar de indringende muziek van musicus/componist Ernst Jansz.

Bij het ontwikkelen van de tentoonstelling zijn we ook weerstand tegengekomen. Weerstand tegen het gelijktijdig in een en dezelfde ruimte tonen van slachtoffers en daders.

 

Meer specifiek: 36 foto’s van slachtoffers van de holocaust en 12 schilderijen van Joachim von Ribbentrop als representant van de nazi-beulen. Kan dat wel? Een van de belangrijkste antwoorden op deze vraag luidt als volgt: allen, slachtoffers en daders, zijn kinderen van ouders en mogelijk weer ouders van een kind.

 

Bij het project Kind mijn kind gaat het om meer dan alleen een tentoonstelling. Dit heeft geleid tot een veelomvattende kunstmanifestatie met meerdere activiteiten. Het gaat hierbij om debatten, workshops, cross-overs met poëzie, muziek en film.

INTRODUCTION

 

The exhibition ‘Kind, mijn Kind’ (Child my Child) questions the human capacity for being a perpetrator or a victim. In different contexts people are capable of filling either role.

 

In their work the participating artists address a number of paradoxes. Seeming contradictions. The paradoxes of power and powerlessness, of victims and perpetrators. In different situations people will experience the degree to which they are powerful or powerless, are victim or possibly even perpetrator.  In the exhibition the aforementioned paradoxes are expressed in photographs by Theo Derksen and paintings by Jos Wigman.

 

Through projected photographs and paintings we see how the images of victim and perpetrator fade into each other. These morphing images, are accompanied by a penetrating music composed by musician/composer Ernst Jansz.

During the development of the exhibition we also encountered opposition. Opposition against simultaneously showing victims and perpetrators in the exhibition space.

 

More specifically: 36 photographs of victims of the Holocaust and 12 paintings of Joachim von Ribbentrop representing the Nazi perpetrators. Is it acceptable to do this? One of the most important answers to this question is the following statement: All, victims as well as perpetrators, are children of parents and potentially parents of children.

 

The Child, my Child project is about more than just an exhibition. It has led to an ambitious art event that includes several activities such as debates, workshops and cross-overs with poetry, music and film.
